Forced labor

Forced labor in the context of cargo brokers and supply chains is a serious issue. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforces laws against importing goods produced with forced labor and has the authority to prevent such goods from entering the U.S. market. CBP defines forced labor as work exacted under the threat of penalty and not offered voluntarily, which includes forced or indentured child labor.

If you suspect that merchandise produced by forced labor is being imported into the United States, you can report your concerns to any Port Director or the Commissioner of CBP. CBP takes these allegations seriously and can issue Withhold Release Orders (WROs) to detain goods that are believed to be produced with forced labor.

As a participant in CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism), Future Forwarding Company joins with CBP to fight forced labor.   CTPAT Partners should have a documented social compliance program in place that, at a minimum, addresses how the company ensures goods imported into the United States were not mined, produced or manufactured, wholly or in part, with prohibited forms of labor, i.e. forced, imprisoned, indentured, or indentured child labor.

It’s important to be aware of this issue and support efforts to eradicate forced labor, ensuring fair labor standards and ethical trade practices. If you need more detailed information or assistance on this topic please get in touch:
